I started Mitten Made Concrete because I was tired of watching contractors treat people's homes like checkboxes. Rushed prep. Skipped details. "Good enough" finishes that look fine in month one and embarrassing in year three. That's not the work I wanted my name attached to.
So I built something simple: one name on the truck, one name on the warranty. When you call, you're talking to me. When we walk the job, it's me. When the concrete gets finished and cut, it's still me — no sales rep handing you off to a crew you've never met.
Concrete is unforgiving. Shortcuts show up in year two. That's why I spend more time on base prep, drainage, and reinforcement than most contractors spend on the whole job. If the boring stuff is done right, the finish takes care of itself — and your driveway, patio, or walkway still looks clean after ten Michigan winters.

"We can just pour over it"
If your slab is cracked, uneven, or sinking, pouring over it is a band-aid. The problem underneath doesn't go away — it just shows up faster under the new concrete.
No written quote or contract
If the quote is just a number texted to you, you have no protection. A real contractor puts scope, thickness, reinforcement spec, and timeline in writing before they touch a thing.
Suspiciously low price
Concrete has real material and labor costs. If one quote is 40% under the others, somebody is cutting corners — thinner pour, skipped reinforcement, rushed base prep. You'll pay the difference later.
Cash only, no license
Licensed contractors pull permits where required, carry insurance, and file taxes. Cash-only contractors usually don't. If something goes wrong, you have zero recourse.
Pressure to sign today
"This price is only good if you sign now" is a sales tactic, not a contractor tactic. Real pros give you time to think, compare, and ask questions. Pressure means something's off.
No photos of actual work
Every legitimate contractor has a photo library. If the only pictures you see are stock photos or blurry phone shots, that's a sign they either don't have the work or don't want you seeing it.
